I assume the best way is to take a course. What happens after? How long does it take to get the card and do they issue a temporary one?

I'd like to go duck and goose hunting this coming season.

Is there a method to do the materials and challenge the test (?) outside of a course? The courses Im finding seem to be on friday nights and saturdays, but I have a few busy weekends ahead of me..

For Ontarians: The hunting course is half of your weekend. The firearms part is the other half. You may challenge the firearms test (videos online, common sense, and show the acts & prove) and some instructors will let you come in when ever you can.

The outdoors card is $9 and change, and you will be issued a temporary hunting license until the card arrives, but you MUST take the hunting course to do this. As per the firearms side of the house, challenge if you have the experience, and begin the pal waiting game w/ the CFO.

Good luck,

I have my PAL/RPAL and am an active shooter. Just looking for the most straight forward way to get into hunting now.

Thanks

I wish we could take a portion of it on line

I did the free Manitoba on line course, it was easy unfortunately worthless in Ontario

It is more time consuming for the outdoors card than the PAL. You get a paper one for the current year so you can go hunting.

My nephew did this last year. If I recall correctly, he took the course and exam. Right after passing he was good to go.

The exam paper is good to get you a paper licence the same day --the plastic "Outdoors" card will take longer.

Depending where in Ontario you are and who administers the course, you are looking at about $160 including materials for a 12 hour course including the exam. Mine was 4 hours on a friday evening and about 8 hours on the saturday. Since you already have your PAL you will be good to get your temporary outdoors card and tags as soon as you pass. Unlike the process for your PAL, there isn't anything to mail off and wait for.

if you take the course you can go buy your licence the next day. As long at you take it before the hunting season your fine. you have already missed the draw date for moose and deer but no worries you can still have tons of fun! If i were you i would figure out where i was going to take the course and reserve a spot now it fills up quick close to hunting season!!

antlerless deer- the antlered draw doesn't close til September

There is a draw for antlerless which ended July 3rd, there is a draw for the Controlled Deer Hunt in certain WMUs which allows you to hunt any deer and that draw is from August 1st - August 31st. Buck tags are available for everyone with a hunting licence and there isn't a draw for them. This year you can also buy an additional tag on a first come, first served basis and that began July 16th.
