anyone know why my 270 grouped like this?

008-1.jpg

4 shots from the 270 at 75ish yards... shooting 150 grain bullets. Was aiming at the cross.

other shots were my 30-06, proving that im just not a crappy shot lol..

couldnt shoot too much more as I didnt have good ear protection with me

edit..... No wind at all. -10 degrees and waiting about 10 seconds between shots

An absolute text book example of showing a rifle that requires bedding. End of the story, nothing more to say.

For the savage package gun, a nice bedding job in the recoil lug area and some stiffening in the forend portion of the stock will improve things for you. Be sure to check the barrel is not touching the stock when sitting or when under stress because the plastic does move a lot in the front end. Oh ya....try some tips on adjusting that lawyer trigger, it can be easily modded with some piano wire or the like to help with the trigger pull. Or look into a timney replacement, great value and they work. With these tips and some reloading you should be seeing sub MOA at 100. Enjoy.

We only get our hearing once mate, a pack of ear plugs are cheap so you can hear your kids when you get old. Or maybe this is a blessing in disquise:)

Elky.....

Tighten those action screws up then try again!

I am willing to bet it's either that OR your bbl heating up and starting to "walk".

To see what it is try the exact same thing again. (after tightening action screws) Shoot 4 shots with the same 10 seconds between shots. See if it does the exact same vertical stringing pattern.
If It does then you have proven that you have a problem and the results you got today were not a fluke. If it shoots good problem solved.

Then let the bbl cool down for a long time (untill the entire bbl is cold) then shoot one shot wait a long time untill the bbl is completely cold then shoot another repeat untill 4 shots have been fired. IF the group is all in the area of shot number one and is not stringing up wards then it proves that the bbl shoots higher as it heats up.
If the group is the same vertical stringing problem then it proves you have a bedding issue.

There are other issues that it could be (like scope check all mounting screws fro tightness) but this test will get you started.

Update:

after tightening the stock down, i went to the spot and i see the problem is fixed.

was able to keep all shots in an inch at 90ish yards.... good enough for me

fired 20 shots total, never experienced the walking issue

Looks like maybe the forend has unwanted contact with the barrel on the left side and as the barrel heats is exerting pressure on the barrel? I used to own a model 70 FWT that strung it's shots vertically in the same manner. The cause was contact under the barrel with the forend.

Any chance you are gripping the gun harder after each subsequent shot or pushing abit with your finger?
