Does anyone know much about the vxII 4-12x40 AO with the LR reticle.I am thinking about buying one of these to put on a .243 that will be primarily used for coyotes, but for deer as well.I am also considering the Burris with Ballistic Plex, but have to say I've been real impressed with Leupolds customer service and warranty work in the past.
Thanks

Leupold is more money, the reticle on the burris is useful and quite a bit darker than the LR, more eye relief on the leupy, but it's a 243. The burris makes it hard to use flip up caps as the whole eyepiece turns. I have the burris 4.5x14x42 ff11 with the ballistic plex on my 25-284 and the bplex works out to 500 yards.

Leupold

If you can afford it spend the extra bucks and get a Leupold VX111- it is far superior to the VX11. Just my opinion however.

We have sold many higher magnification VX 11's and have had no problem. For only a little more money also consider the 6-18x40 AO and this model is available as a target model with target turrets if you so desire. Phil.

I have ALL the VXII LR Duplex scopes all the way from the 2-7 on up to the 6-18. Of them all my favorite is the 2-7 and the 6-18.

220 Swift wears the 6-18x40 A/O with the LRV reticle
260 Rem 700 BDL wears the 4-12x40 A/O LR Duplex
270 Win 700 BDL wears the 3-9x50 LR duplex,
SBE slug barrel wears the 3-9x40 LR duplex
.50 cal T/C Omega wears the 2-7 LR Duplex.

I've found that the Leupold LR Duplex is better for quick aquisition and precision. The use of a small dot, much like a mil dot type on the bottom vertical post is easy to see even in low light and can be indexed to use the top / middle / or bottom of the dot. The LRV uses hash lines much the same as the Burris Ballistic Plex and does not obstruct the picture at high magnification. The only reason I'd go to Burris over the Leupold is for the illuminated version for low light long range applications....but I went to a Leupold Mark 4 4.5-14x50 LR/T M1 illuminated TMR for that. The advantage of the Leupold coatings, accessories, light weight and eye relief not to mention the Canadian service center wins my dollar! If you load your own ammo, you can match to the reticle by volocity and bullet weight.
