When I charge my m305, and pull the op rod all the way to the rear, is it normal to be able to pull the op rod completely off the bolt's roller, when I reach the dismount notch?

I'm brand new to m1a pattern guns. Is that just the piece of metal that is attached to the recoil spring? Also would the proper way to charge the rifle, just be with the vector of force being as close to straight backwards as possible?

FWIW, the dismount notch is supposed to let you remove the OP rod, allowing it to disengage with the roller. During firing it should not do that, only when manually cycling it slowly and twisting it at the same time.

I took the rifle apart again, and looked at the op rod guide. The op rod guide seems to be slightly canted towards the side of the rifle with the charging handle, but is not loose at all. Is this fixable with the same method, or should the rifle still function normally?
