Question about my Lithgow

Hi Guys
Just purchase this #4 Lithgow and noticed there are 3 little holes drilled into the base of the barrel , Can anyone tell me what is the purpose of these as I am new to this field of collecting.

They vent the chamber in case of a ruptured shell casing. Keeps the hot gas from blowing back in your face.

What's the action date of your lithgow?

Early L-E's have a nicely milled oval here but later ones are just three drilled holes like that.

As far as i know (dont have a Mk1 MLM) they were all done by drilling 3 holes except later Ishapore No1 Mk3s which have a single hole like the No4.
