I have a Mcmillan stock that I really like but it has a felt camo cover glued on that came from the factory, my question does anyone know what the stock would look like under the fabric cover? i'm thinking of taking it off but im wondering if there is a finnishing under it or if there is a way I could put a finnish on it?

If not does anyone know what a fair asking price is, it's for a Remington long action with a magnum countor barrel?

They are filled and rough sanded to get the glue to stick to the felt and fiberglass. To take it off will require some elbow grease, then it is just a matter of finish sanding and painting. If you like the look of the newer textured stocks leave it rough to about 220 grit and shoot it with spray boxliner (not the Cambodian tire crap)

What kind of paint and how do I prep it?

Thanks alot for the help.

I use "armacoat" as it is quite durable and comes in many colors, so camo can be done easily. If a solid color is wanted then "plasticolor, truck bedliner" works great. A slightly gritty feel which I like for grip, and VERY tough finish, about $20.00 per can, available at body shop supply stores

I have a Mcmillan with the textured finnish and I like it so I think the bedliner idea would be best, can I just sand it and apply or do I need to "prime it" , also how do you apply the bedliner?

no priming required, sand the stock with 220 and spray it with the bedliner. Same as spray paint, just thicker. I leave it about an hour between coats and shoot it 3 times, and presto, its done.
Takes about 2 days to get really hard and resistant to wear.
