Hi all, I have a couple Enfield mags, one of which I need to id. It's the bottom one in the picture with the attachment loop, it's British from the proof marks. Can someone give me an idea of value as well as model of LE it would have been used with?

Thanks in advance.

@5THBATT thanks for the help, any idea of its value? I have a friend that's interested in it and I honestly have no idea what it's worth let alone what to sell it to a good friend for. My no.1 mk3 Lithgow already has an OA and MA stamped mags, so this will help a friend out.

According to Charles R. Stratton in "SMLE (No.1) Rifles Mki and Mkiii"
Magazine first variation, early Mki rifles for use with MkVI (round nose) cartridge. Similar to Long Lees. The difference being a "stop clip" riveted to the right front corner, witch yours doesn't have, so I agree with 5THBATT that it is for a Long Lee. The loop had a small chain to attach it to the loop at the front of the magazine well to keep it with the rifle.

Thanks, my friend just picked up this sportered LE and its got a 5rd mag in it, as he's got the corresponding loop at the magwell/trigger guard floor plate I thought he'd put it to good use rather than it sitting in my safe doing nothing. It was on my lithgow when I put it back to original kit, I've since picked up a couple Aussie mags for it as and put the long lee mag on the shelf.

The loop on Sht.LE rifles is a legacy from the chain link mags of the long Lees, yes, but it wasn't used for that.

On the Sht.LE, it was retained for use of attaching the tether laces of a canvass action cover.

Your friend's rifle shown above would have the common type 4 magazine body magazine without the loop. So just as well to hang onto that long Lee mag, it gives you an excuse to go buy another rifle for you to fit it in.

You mention a five round mag. Ask your buddy to go check again to see if it will hold six.
