I did a bunch of googling and called a couple gun stores but I'm getting conflicting answers. I have been told all Ruger P series mags are interchangeable. I have a P85 and having a hell of a time finding mags so I'm hoping others will work. Do any of you have first hand knowledge?

Go direct to Ruger they will give you the answer and where to
get magazines.
I got a bunch from them when the guns were a new item
But, everything has changed in America , so I don't know if
they ship here anymore

All P-series pistols of the same caliber use a similar magazine design, but slight modifications have been made to at least the 9mm guns so that not all P-series magazines will function in all P-series frames. Ruger did not keep track of the magazine models so an older magazine may not secure in a newer frame.

Might have to do some trial and error.

I had an early P89 and one of the last production P89s. They came with their respective Ruger original magazines.

I don’t have the early P89 anymore but IIRC, their mags were not interchangeable.

However, I bought a pair of MecGar P series mags and they fit both my early as well my later series P-89s.

If you buy Ruger branded magazines, make sure the package indicates the serial numbers they will fit.

I believe early P-series are numbered lower than 304-70000.

P-85s would most probably need early P-89 mags.
