Question about S&W M&P 9mm

Mine's loose as a goose - and I actually replaced it, right around 15,000 rounds (the other one wasn't broken, just looking a little worn). That was about 6 or 7 thousand rounds ago. Take the slide off, as suggested, and watch it operate with an empty mag - none of my 3 M&P's have had a stiff slide stop, not even the 45. Is the recoil spring properly seated in the slide, I could see that causing an issue. Don't be afraid to remove the frame tool, I've actually used mine to take the frame down on a couple of occaisions - driving pins, etc. and it doesn't have any damage, even though I was hitting the plastic end with a hammer.

I've owned two new M&P's myself and both were extremely stiff. Nothings wrong with them and it's actually quite common. It looks like you got lucky or I was unlucky.

No exactly a fear, just a waste of time. Your pinky is always available and pulling the trigger is another take down option.

Personally OP I wouldn't waste your time "searching" for something wrong. Work it or sand it, just my opinion.

If you don't use it, how do you close your slide?

Slingshot or overhand rack.

You can also "auto-forward" by slamming the magazine in with a bit of force and the slide will usually carry forward automatically.

You may want to visit a dedicated M&P forum for detailed information ----> mp-pistol.com

I'll give it a look.

Hopefully my 9mm ammo order from SFRC shows up tomorrow so I can try the gun out on the weekend.

I'm with you on the "auto-forward" (slap the loaded mag in with your hand moving up and forward at 45 degrees)- Tritium will probably kick my *ss for that next month, LOL

I use the slide release. By the way, it is harder to slide release on an empty mag than on a mag with ammo in it. When you hit it on an empty mag you are also working to push the follower back into the mag. Get what I mean?

Will be easier to use with boolits in it.

Covered.

Notice how it is easier to use the mag release with no mag in it.

I meant we covered that in post 17. The magazine follower engages the slide stop as you mentioned. No reason to release the slide when the magazine has no ammo. Just remove the magazine altogether, then release the slide.
