hey everyone.
i'm looking for some quick detach scope rings currently. i have a brand new set of leupolds that i was staring at and i started thinking, why couldn't i just replace the cross bolt in the base of the ring with a cam lever which would make them quick detach. trouble is finding cam levers......
has anyone done this in the past? if so where did you find the parts, or what did you do to covert your rings to quick detach?

i realize that this question may come across as me being cheap.. which i can assure you i am. but i also can't justify selling rings for less than what i paid to take that money and pay more for quick detach ones if i can infect source out a cam lever, maybe even by some cheap 1" qd rings and steal the levers from them. cuz you can find some for 20$ a set
thanks in advance.

Do you want cheap quick detach rings or do you want quick detach rings that don't require sighting in each time you remove and install the scope?

to be honest i don't see the difference in this instance.... warne rings are highly regarded as a return to zero qd ring, as well as the leupold... both only differ from cheap rings because of the metal used, and the precision of the milling. but the mechanism for quick locking is simple. its a threaded bolt with a lever.

and also i should clarify my use for qd rings. i have no intention of using my rings for continual on and off placement of a scope. i want qd rings simply for the unlikely yet still possible hunting situation when your scope bites the dust in a critical moment where time is of essence and tools are not accessible. i can quickly remove my scope and rely on my buis. i don't fancy backpacking all over gods green earth and having to turn around cuz i can't get my damn scope of.

most of my rifles are fitted with a stock pouch which i generally carry my tags,id, spare mag & small tools for things like rings and what have you. so maybe this is just a pointless endeavour that isn't worth my time or efforts.... this is really just a "maybe its possible?" to do cost effectively situation. i mean i'm really only a member of this forum so people can tell me i'm wrong, and i can learn before i waste energy failing at a pointless endeavour..

I don't know what set of Leupold rings and bases you have, they make several different models.

I have used and installed several sets of the Leupold QR™ (Quick Release) Mounts. They are a very solid set up. I doubt you will find an 'add on' to your existing rings that will do what you want...

You state the only difference is "metal used" and the "precision of the milling". So you want to find airsoft rings? Then pull the cheap pot metal cam levers out and put them in quality rings? All great until the recoil snaps the bolts. At least you have your backup sights.

Yeah, I don't get it. I bought a pair of Vortex QD rings on the weekend for $25, how much cheaper do you want?
