I'm thinking about getting a tactical light for a pistol, I'm looking for info from anyone that has used them, what are your thoughts on which is better. Also would it be worth it getting one. I'm also thinking of putting one on a AR15.
please don't reply if you haven't used a tactical light.. any of these listed any good?

Insight M6 Tactical
Insight M6X Tactical
Streamlight TLR-2
Beamshot GB 8800S light/laser
Insight X2L Tactical

The insight and Streamlight models are good. Surefire makes good lights as well. The beamshot I have no experience with personally, but it isn't a tier 1 light from what I've heard.

Is it worth getting one? That's something you have to decide. Do you intend to shoot competitions on low light/no light conditions? Do you intend to run your pistol or rifle for home defense? If the answer is no then don't waste your money.

IMO I would go with a surefire x300. It is boomproof, super bright and throws really well. I have one on my glock and I am going to buy two more, one for my m305 and one for my work rifle. I have used a few different setups and the x300 is the one I am going with. Once you use one I don't think you will go back.

I use a TLR-2, I've had it for about 11/2 years and its great. Installed on both the g17 and my kimber.45. No problems and seems to hold zero well with the laser. I use the laser for training sometimes to show people how much they move when the pull the trigger... trying top find otherways of justifying the price. Lowlight is perfect for it as well. Good luck!

I just picked up a brand new TLR-1 on eBay for $137 to my door. I seems like a really well built unit so I would assume the TLR-2 would be great as well. Streamlight offers a lifetime warranty. Maybe the others do to, I'm not too sure.

I have the Steamlight TLR-2, it's great!
I use the laser for trigger practice and targeting. The light is ultra bright 80 lumons.

The Insight X2L Tactical is great as well.

I was thinking of getting the Insight m6 or m6x but wanted to see your thoughts on the others lights before I jump into this one. looks like the Streamlight TLR-2 is very popular. I was looking at getting the new Springfield XDM pistol and put one of these babies for low light conditions. I have a flashlight for work that is 80 lumens and find it not bright enough for a tactical flash light.

X300 110 lumens $249 USD
TLR1 C4 135 lumens $89 USD

You do the math..

I was looking for the light/laser combo but the TLR1 C4 - 135 lumens would make a great light when you really need to blind someone and the price is nice might just get one of each. :D

OK moving to the AR platform what do you all think would be best for that keep in mind both Laser/light combo.

If your looking for a light laser combo surefire makes the x400 which has both. I have not used or seen one of these in person, so I can't say how good it is or isn't. But it is made by surefire so it should be top notch. YMMV

There is no best. Asking for the best is requesting an absolute and there is no absolute with the exception of math and science. Any brand of AR you buy will outshoot you and 99% of all other shooters as well. Stick with popular brands, Colt, Armalite, Stag, RRA, LMT, Noveske, Bushmaster, DPMS. A MIL spec AR is a MIL spec AR. The fit and finish does differ from brand to brand but at the end of the day they all run.

What you need to do is determine what you want out of the rifle. What is your intended purpose/use. From there you will have a much better idea what you might want/need as far a setup and accessories go.

As far as the light and laser combo, I'll say this. Lasers border on nearly useless for the vast majority of firearms owners. Unless you run NOD's and shoot in the dark the laser is a waste of time. Practicing and mastering the fundamentals of rifle marksmanship will serve you much better than a bolt on accessory ever will.

You can't go wrong with Streamlight or Surefire. The Streamlight TLR2 has served me very well for several years. Bright and holds zero nicely.

TLR-1 is probably the best value. I've got one and it works great. I have a Pentagonlight UX-200 mounted on my AR and it works good as well

I like the looks of the Insight M6 but seen one on a demo gun & the sight mount had to much play if there was a laser on it, It would be useless moved around and wasn't firm.

I also looked at the TRL on a demo gun and it was on tight. TDC where did you find the TLR1 C4 135 lumens $89 USD ??? price here was $160 cdn. new
