I'm in the process of working up some different loads for my 45 LC and plan the give Trail Boss a try. Some where on the internet recently I read an article that made reference to Trail Boss and that despite being a smokeless powder it is nearly as corosive as black powder. I can't for the life of me find the article. I intend to give the powder a try regardless but if others experience is that it does have corrosive properties it will influence how quickly I get to cleaning my guns after a match. Then again if it's mucch like black maybe I should go directly there. So anyone with experience with this powder please chime in and share your results.

Chuck, you must be talking about one of the BP replacements like 777 or Pyrodex, or others, Trail Boss is def. smokeless.....Ben

I'm loading it for my RV's and my 1866 in .45 Colt,(5.5 gr) as well as my .45-70 (15.5 gr)
Never had any issues or indications of corrosion.

Hi Ben
No the article was regarding Trail Boss and the fellow must have been a chemist because he confused:confused::confused: the crap out if me. He was soaking the powder then letting it dry and analyzing what ever leached out. That's how he came up with his theory. I should have book marked the article because I don't remember how I got there. I started out readding up on BPCR loading and in going link to link to link I came across it.

I ran 100 rounds through my pair of SS New Vaqueros today at the indoor range and really like the way it shoots. I'll just keep checking the guns for a few days to see if anything shows up. I'm betting that it doesn't but just thought I would check with some folks with real world experience.
