Okay guys can you Help me right now I have a M96 in 30-06, SKS, Torc tt33, and a bolt .22 Mauser Military trainer. I am changing over to hunt in my local area when I bought the SKS and the M96 I was looking to move north or west. It ain't happening that much I have determined. I'm not going to be able to go north to hunt for at least 2-3 years maybe more. So I'm selling the .30 cals and the handgun and looking to transition to stuff I can use in and around Hamilton and that general area. What I'm thinking since I'm selling those guns off.

I going to use the money first to buy a Mossberg 500 field and deer combo, a semi auto .22 say a savage model 64 or Ruger 10/22 that will mount a scope, my current .22 needs to be drilled and tapped I think the bolt handle might have a problem with a scope. Then save for a crossbow and last pick up a yote gun I'm kind of thinking a KEL-TEC SU-16 just to have something tactical in the mix that is okay for yotes.

Any way Is there any flaw you guys can see in the logic here should I go for something over something else. I should be getting out this year for rabbits if I can find any but would like to branch out to other stuff in the next two to three years it will most likely take me a year to save for the x-bow thinking excaliber and another for the yote

12ga
22lr
Xbow
Any center fire under .275cal. Good to go buddy

I can't see aany flaws. I'm not a fan of kel tec stuff but for tactical looks boyds and mcmillen offer tactical stocks for bolt actions. Same as choate

Happy hunting

I use the following here:

.223 bolt action; used to have .222 (coyote, fox, etc.)
12g semi auto w/ smooth & rifled barrels. 1-4x scope on rifled barrel. (deer, ducks, geese, coyote, bunnies, anything really)
Crossbow (to extend deer season)

For southern ontario that's all I use.

Once every year I head up north for moose, bear, or wolf, which I have a .308 semi auto for.

May not get the KEL-TEC my middle daughter has fallen in love with the AR-15 style rifle since we went shooting with one of her cadet instructors who owns a Norinco copy of one. She really likes shooting something similar and the kel-tec is pretty much what I can afford in that style. I may just let her buy her own after she hits 18. lol Which is grant only a couple of years now. My leaning would be a savage or a handi rifle to be frank.

I know the mossbergs are a great price but they have feeding issues the two guns I use the most are my browning autoloader 12 in 3.5" and a savage 22-250. Also a crossbow

Only thing i would suggest is to maybe splurg on a higher end shotgun either 3 or 3.5 semi ( pump if you want it personal choice) its just that the shotgun is the gun you will use the most probably so id spend a little more to get a nicer one but thats personal really. I prefer the semi for bird hunting because its smoother and faster and more reliable , i know i know most people will disagree but i have seen more people short stroke a pump then semi's jam by a huge margin. For deer hunting it really doesn't matter what shotgun you use, so if your not gonna waterfowl or upland and deer is the main thing the 500 is probably fine. all just IMO

Good point on the shotty guys I may revise that one since as you have said it will be used the most I had not heard of any feeding problem with the 500 but I know that some times cheaper is not better while I refuse to sell the military trainer first gun and the one I use the most the lack of a scope mount and not being able to find another magazine for it drive me bonkers some times.

If you want a great deal on an Excalibur crossbow go to the websites forum page people are having a fire sale because the new Matrix came out. I still shoot the Equinox and plan to keep it for life. I just got new limbs for it with their hassle free warranty so she is good as new. Warranty is good even if your like the 8th owner

ohh I don't have that deep of pockets right now like I said at least a year maybe 2 before I am there. :( Maybe more depending on the job or the other thing as I buy along the way. Sucks but there is a bunch of stuff I need to buy first for hunting and a bunch of stuff I also want out side of that. Should be fine in about 3 year I should have more money free up but right now is about rebuilding after both of us being suddenly unemployed last year. We still need to rebuild saving and put food back in so money is intentionally tight for now hence the gun sale and the reinvest.

The only flaw I see in your plan is selling your existing guns to finance new ones. Collections are supposed to GROW... In all seriousness though, keep your 30-06. It's a do everything rifle for Ontario game. Moose, Deer, Bear, There's nothing you CAN hunt in Ontario that you can't drop with the 30-06. All you need to go is 3 hours north to the South River area, and you can even Sunday hunt with your high powered 30 cal rifles.

Right now 3 hours might as well be the moon. We have one car. I don't get holiday pay and we really can't afford for me to take any time off. Even if i could I am my daughters ride to work and we work together, we both can't be off at the same time not too many of us on that shift. An hour is about all I can afford to drive either way. I've heard lots of guys talking about they amount they spend on a hunt that it's happening any time soon. Like I said two to three years before I'm going to be able to do anything but local hunts.

CulturedRednek good luck on your move west

12 ga and crossbow. 12 ga combos deal with a slug and bird barrel. That will cover most of your hunting in hamilton. I like the 6.5x55 for deer and yotes. Mossberg 930 combo can run you 600, alot of used excaliburs can be found for 550 and m96 with a scope can be found for 400. 1550 and you can hunt almost any big game in ontario and most guys spend that in one gun. Trust me in hamilton a crossbow is needed if you want to get permission to archery hunt.
Alot easier to get permission for archery than gun in hamilton.
