i was trying a load from Ken Water's Pet Loads, and i made a goof. i misreadthe load iwas looking at and loaded 43 gr's of H4350 over a magnum primer for a 220 RN. it was supposed to be 41 not 43. my Lee manual lists a max load of 42 gr's for this powder and bullet, and thats with a standard primer. am i still in safe pressure limits or should i just pull it apart and try again?

Alot of Ken Waters' loads are pretty hot. I would say it depends on the rifle, but to be safe just pull em apart. There is no need to load to max anyways.

If its a Krag, then good greif, load it down. I'd even back off from the Waters loads, but it depends on when it was published. He is quoted as saying in Handloader magazine, that he wished he could "take back" some of those loads, once modern pressure measuring showed just how hot they actually were. The thing that everyone needs to remember about the Lee manual is that it is a compilation of other manuals. It just reprints data from other sources, so you don't know the source.

I have used 43 of XMR4350 in a Krag carbine with no ill effects but I consider it max. I've loaded much heavier for the Lee Enfield in 30-40 but these loads are way too hot for the Krag. Regards, Bill.
