Question For Admin - Mods on Getting a New Section on This Site

What are we gonna call Doug from here on in?

Hehehe - the mind reels :D

If someone wants to post THEIR information, they're welcome to. They'll probably get a note from one of us saying "Do you REALLY want to do that?" but - what the heck, if they want to put it up that's fine.

But we don't allow others to share people's personal information unless it's with their express permission. IF they've used their name as a nick - i'd have to say that's gotta count as permission :D But if you were to post doug's address...

The challenge there is that the owners of the board absolutely hate to advertise for other people for free. Which is essentially what you'd be doing by mentioning specific outfitters as being good. They also hate dealing with lawsuits, which is what you might get if you allow a section dedicated to saying a specific outfitter is 'bad'. And lets be fair - some dink is unfairly pissed about the service he got (maybe he thinks he was 'guaranteed' an animal) and he posts a really unfair and nasty review - that would financially impact the outfitter and he'd be right to complain and ask to tell 'his' side of it, and now we have a mess to clean up.

I think all you can do is start a thread on an outfitter that you really liked or one you really hated and have a discussion, and anyone looking at using a specific guide or looking for a good guide will have to use the search features to bring it up.

Your idea isn't bad at all - but there's some practical elements which would make it difficult to talk the 'management' into implementing.

Who actually owns this site anyway?

I'm not actually sure of the exact ownership, it's not exactly public. But GT is the head man for all intents and purposes here. You could always pm him with the idea if you like, his word is final on all such things.

I wish I had been contacted to make sure I didn't want to use my actual name. Never gave it a thought at the time, mind you when I first got on this stupid computer I could barely use my email. How was I going to remember a log in name? And yes, my memory is that bad.
Now the damage is done and I have ruined my good standing in the community. :D

Had I to do it again I would use a cool alias. But Tod Bartell is already taken.

On the outside of things it seems like it is a great second income...the sponsor fees are a big topic on another website.

I wish I thought of this website idea.

But the book keeping to keep revenue Canada happy must be a nightmare.

It's a great website , I along with countless thousands enjoy it and I personally thank the mysterious owner/s for providing such a great way for the firearms community to communicate.

My hats off to persons unknown....

Mayor Miller and Jack Layton own the site. I checked the corporate registry.

hehe. Well, i'm sure if you ask real nice slavex would be willing to change your nick for you, in light of the fact that you'd rather not use your actual name.

We could call you Ted Bartell if it made you feel better :D

Well it's often the case that what starts out as a simple hobby winds up actually turning into a little revenue generator.

Frankly - to be honest with you there's a lot more niches in the market that aren't being filled that there's plenty of room for. I know a guy, loved model shipbuilding, always had a hard time finding all the little tools and such he liked, wound up starting a webpage with a drop-ship agreement with his suppliers, and over a few years built it up to a little 60 grand a year sideline income after COGS with maybe 10 grand a year in costs. Not bad for simply filling out orders 2 times a week and the supplier shipping directly to the buyer :)

There's lots of good ideas out there yet, it's all in the execution. Few people know how to sit down and really think about how to do it right. But the technology part is pretty easy these days.

If you ever have a question about how to set something up on the web for yourself, you can always pm me. It's not that hard these days. But the secret is to pick something you care about, because you're most likely to know what people want and what isn't happening in the marketplace.
