So question for you CGN'ers:

If I was to convert my AR15 to a .22 Cal rifle, would this enable me to keep my AR15?

Thoughts?

Its a Colt Diemaco and I really do not want it to be crushed into scrap. My only other thought was gifting it to my old unit for the Regimental Museum. There are tons of weird guns in the vault for the same reason. I even looked into export it to my buddy in the USA, the 15.7 barrel is too short and needs a tax stap, so that's a no.

All AR15 lowers and uppers are now prohibited firearms, regardless of calibre

Also, note to add it is already in a 22 cal :p

......

The lower is Prohibited by name. That was communicated to you on the letter you got in July of 2020. The upper is a Prohibited Device, regardless of barrel length. Your only choices are destroy, deactivate through the ahem-Buy-cough-Back, or export.

The mention of the museum is interesting. The collections of all regimental museums is Non Public Property, and there are Directorate of History and Heritage directives for receiving small arms donations. They become property of the Crown, and have to be taken onto the property books. Suggest write directly to the Director at DHH and ask for guidance. There is a real probability they have mused about this around the coffee machine, but a letter from the public will require an answer.

From memory if you add a brake and get it pinned & welded (so its permanent) then it should be over 16" and problem solved.

If I am remembering this incorrectly I am sure someone will shoot me down.

That's acceptable for the USA. However, I don't think that it would be allowed to be exported to the USA regardless.

US has pretty strict import rules for firearms which is why the AR-15 (made in America) is so popular over there, and most gun companies produce their firearms in country (Glock; Georgia, CZ; Kansas city etc.)
