Do any collectors have original unfired 38 LC in their collections?
Reason being I take umbrage with the oft repeated mantra ( I say myth) that 38 spl is merely a lengthened 38 LC.
I have two 38 LC's... a '92 & a 95. One with a stepped cylinder and one bored straight through. Obviously the stepped one would not digest 38 spl lengths, but I ran soft loaded 38 spl through the bored out one. Had to run HB PL bullets to get it to shoot, larger bore requires this.
It's merely an academic debate at best, other than a guy with a real '77 Lightning... who cares? Up in BP there is a thread on Rook rifles and claims are made that the Rooks came in 38 LC. Cool, but my straight bored cylinder is so oversized that it will actually split the Starline offering.
Academic in that practically no-one cares to get one running. Some folks like the Star line 38 LC offering in that they can run powder puff loads... some figure that the shorter length is a touch faster. And while I'm absolutely certain the Starline offering is merely a shortened 38 spl...could an original 38 LC offering even fit into a modern 38 spl?
