Been reloading since the mid 1980’s and for the last 15 years have been using a Hornady Lock n Load AP ammo plant with bullet feeders and case feeders for bulk pistol, 223, and 308.
A week ago I purchased a used XL650 with shell feeder and I am using an ammomike 3D printed bullet feeder and bullet feeder dies.
I had to disassemble almost the entirety of the XL650 as it had sat for a few years before I purchased it and was covered / caked in dried grease and grime.
Press now runs like a Swiss watch (and is lubed per Dillon precisions youtube video) but on the lever downstroke (shellplate upstroke) I hear what I can only describe as a tinkling / clinking tinny type noise. It is not loud and there is just the usual small resistance when depriming / resizing.
It sounds like it is coming from the depriming/ sizing die (9mm Dillon dies) and when there is no case in station 1 there is no noise.
A friends XL 650 using Hornady dies does not make this noise.
I have cleaned the die and there are no visual imperfections in either the die, decapping rod, or processed cases after they have been run thru the die.
I have also inspected the press and can find no cracks or imperfections / Damage anywhere.
All loaded rounds (700+ so far) are G2G per the chamber checker.
Is this a normal noise for Dillon depriming / resizing dies.
I have exclusively used Lee and Hornady dies for pistol and never experienced this noise before.
Anyone have any ideas as to what is making the noise and if it is normal?
It is not super annoying just weird.
Many thanks in advance for any info, advice, or suggestions.
