Just wondering, since I've never had any official training on the AR15 system, what is the CF procedures for function test, immediate action and remedial actions for the C7/C8? Is there a Canadian manual to download like the US Army manual that is floating around the internet?

Tap the mag and recock. That will solve most stoppages

As for a function test "gun unloaded"
Place on safe pull trigger "hammer should NOT release"
Place on R pull trigger and hold trigger to the rear "hammer should release"
With your finger still holding the trigger, #### the rifle and release trigger "you should hear click"
Pull the trigger again "hammer should release"

Tap the mag and recock. That will solve most stoppages

As noted here, the army is slowly moving away from the older drills, especially for combat situations. The quickest remedy is to tap and rack. If it doesn't clear immediately after tapping the mag and recocking, dump the mag, and reload. As far as an empty mag, you should know when it's empty based on the amount you think you've fired (close to capacity), and the fact that the bolt stays open which has a very distinct feel compared to other stoppages. So if you know the mag is empty I would skip the tap and rack in that situation. Voilà!

PM me......if you want to know I'll help you.

Tap and rack is now being taught at many of the battle schools / trade schools now. The gunfighter program is being taught to Combat Engineers, Infantry and if I remember correctly, Armour.
Thank you CFB Gagetown for robbing me of 6 weeks of my life :p
