Question for MDT Chassis w/ Remington M700 SA owners.

Hello,

I just put together my MDT LSS chassis system with my 16" barrel Remington 700 SA .308 as per the MDT YouTube video during the Christmas holidays. Prior to this the rifle was mounted to a Magpul Hunter 700 stock with mounting bolts torqued to 55 in/lb and was getting MOA groups with factory 180gr Federal blue box ammo and sub-MOA with my 165gr handloads at 100 yards. The scope is a Vortex PST Gen II with a anti-cant bubble level with the rings and base torqued to specs. Trigger is a Trigger Tech Primary set to 1.5 lb.

Fast forward, the mounting bolts for the MDT were torqued down to 60 in/lb and checked for zero with the same ammo mentioned above and the end result was very upsetting. See picture below, 3" group at 100 yards. (1" sticker)

My question is have any of you experience the same as I have and did you have to change the mounting bolt torque setting to something less or more?

Weird, Sounds like a nice rifle, should get better in a chassis!

what type of rest are you shooting off of?
did maybe the scope take a crap? (I had a brand new scope start 'walking around' the paper as I was 'trying' to zero it.. made me scratch my head and I won't get that ammo back LOL)
 
Not a Rem owner or factory ammo shooter, but my experience may be relevant,
Savage 10TR in factory accustock did great with 43.6gn of Varget,
When transfered to MDT ESS stock, 43.6gn of Varget was giving poor performance, a new load dev revealed that 42.7 was where it was at now.
Different stocks different harmonics...
 
Your gun will shoot differently in a stock vs.a chassis. Stocks do not reverberate the same as chassis and have different vibration signatures, thereby changing your load (as Marty pointed out). I would do another load development with your action screws torqued to at least 50-60 in/lbs and see where the node has shifted to.

Additionally, be sure to use a solid rest (bipod and heavy bag) when doing load dev to ensure the best results.
 
Thanks everyone for your advice.

I did some more researching and asking but I may not have followed the instructions correctly and did not torque the bolts correctly - front first to the recommended torque setting then the rear. I may also start off with lighter torque setting and work up to MDT recommendation.
