Question for old-school tactical project: 870 wingmaster OR Win Mod 12 (takedown)?

Keep in mind the model 12's can slam fire much like the old ithica's could but the Stevens 350 can't. A neat feature to have.

I really like my old Model 12. Its a nice light and still tight shot gun I've had for years.

I've got an offer to grab a model 12 but the THREE inch (3" shells), for $300 (with a polychoke). Should I do that, or wait for a better deal?

I think I might want to wait for just a 2 3/4, because from what I recall, polychoke barrels had ribs/vents. I want a plain barrel.

So, I ended up going the 870 route. Why? I couldn't pass up a killer deal on the EE, for an 870 with really nice goodies. I then sourced some Police wood, refinished it (it was beat up a bit), and now I am just wondering how hard it would be to do a "coating" on the gun at home (DIY deal).... I don't like the glossy blue. I want a flat parkerized type finish on it.... but it seems pricey!

Anyone parkerize/coat/etc a shotty at home before? What was involved?
