Hello all,

I'm very close to purchasing a new Sig Sauer 516 AR-15 as my first "real" AR-15 rifle. I know Sig makes some quality pistols, so after talking to the salesman I had narrowed it down to the 516 as my likely choice. I was looking for a complete, new AR-15 in the $1500 range although I was willing to go a little higher if the quality was worth the increase. I searched the forums and couldn't really find much info on the 516. I have seen a few review videos which were mostly positive. I was looking for the opinions from those of you on CGN have actually OWNED or extensively used the 516 specifically. I'm not really interested in hearing from those of you that will tell me not to get a piston AR instead of DI unless it has something to do with the quality, etc. of the 516 itself. This thread wasn't meant to start a Piston vs DI debate.

Any opinions on this rifle would be great. Thanks!

I have two 516's. One with a 16" barrel and one with a 7.5" barrel. Love them both, no issues with either. When it came time for something chambered in 308 I went with the 716. No regrets whatsoever.

I have the 716 as my first AR in 16". Best decision I made no regrets whatsoever. With its piston driven technology, it combines the best of both worlds AK and AR. Never had any issues or failures and it is a breeze to clean. Just make sure to thoroughly remove all the factory lube/wax that it is shipped with and re-lube everything - I recommend fireclean.

Enjoy!

I have access to several. I have not encountered any issues. I feel they stack up well quality-wise to other ARs.
