Question for you beretta guys?

I just bought a used 391 and shot some clays with it on the weekend... I bought some cheap shells, one of those value packs from canadian tire and shot 3 boxes through it... out of those 3 boxes, 2 shells got caught half way in the chamber coming up from the magazine, both were on the 3rd shot...I had to give the action a shot forward to get them up in the barrel... These shells were 1 1\8 with very low brass and were winchesters.... I shot a few kent through the gun, 3inch and 2 3\4 and cycled them fine...

my question, is it normal for these guns to not kick out these lower grade shells, or is there somthing i can look at to make this gun cycle them out better..My brother was shooting an auto 5 and it wouldent touch these shells, it jamed every shot on them...

My beretta is clean as a whistle and well oiled, The gun fits me great and shoulders nice, i just was wondering if anyone else has had this problem shooting light loads, and if its normal...

Im use to shooting an 870 wingmaster, it eats anything, new to the semi auto thing....

These shells are cheap because Winchester uses the cheapest components they can find. The quality control isn't great either. I've shot many of them and have seen some pretty tatty looking crimps and shells that should have never made it out of the plant.

If your gun is working with other shells then I wouldn't worry about it. I have a 391 that has worked with everything from 3" mags right down to 7/8 reloads at 1100fps. The only exception is 1 ounce Federal Top Guns. They hang up often in this gun. When the gun works with everything else and not with one particular type of shell it's the shell causing the problem not the gun.
 
Do yourself a favour ... stay away from crappy cheap shells.

They for crappy cheap guns to (sometimes) achieve crappy results !

Like buying a new Vette than running it down to Canadian Tire to get
a nice set of MotoMaster tires for 'er !

Same here, I save those cheapies for the over/under. I have had good luck with the winchester super targets as a reasonable replacement to the CT/Walmart cheapies.
 
I am not a fan of crappy shells either but I gotta say that my 391 eats them up without a problem. Check out "shotgun world"s site under the "I love my beretta" forum...there is lots of info an there about 391 cycling probs and there are instructions on how to check your gun for a bent carrier. The 391 is a great gun IMO

Now THAT is good advice. Comparable to Kent, if not better, and at a cheaper price.
 
My 391 hates federal top gun loads. The cheap winchesters from wally world cyled fine. The only problem came with a bad crimp or buldged top than as you said a slight tap forward is needed. It a pain when you get a nice double and the second shell doesn't chamber though!!!

dilly, i checked the forum there but couldent find any pics of the bent carriers... if anyone has a link would they please put it up in a post.... Im hopeing it was just the ammo, but would like to check to make sure that it isnt somthing more serious..

how much is a carrier to replace if that is the case??

thanks everyone for there input, I apreciate your help, I love this gun, i just dont want to have any problems with it in the goose field...
 
those shells are crap and only going to give u problems. personally i use kent shells. it may burn a whole in my pocket but it's worth it
 
I cant shoot any winchester loads out of mine....works for a bit then I get them half feeding into the chamber. They seem to get the piston so dirty that it gums up and I have to hammer the action closed with my palm.

kent seem to work fine

also challenger and rem
