Question for you older fellows

I figured the optics section would be as good a place as any for this question.

My issue is that I now wear bifocals and shooting through a scope can be a royal PITA when trying to line up for a shot.
If I don't have my head just so my POI changes. ( Not due to the scope or gun ). I think its the bifocals. Have any of you who wear bifocals experienced the same issue ? If so how do you cope with it ?
 
I also wear progressive lenses in my everyday glasses, however I use single vision lens in a a pair of Knobloch shooting classes. The script is my normal distance/astigmatism correction without the bifocal. The only disadvantage is I have a hard time reading my score books and need a magnifying glass the read the vernier on my rear sight. Getting old sucks.
 
I've tried progressive and will NEVER go back to them. I've got some shooting glasses (Rangers) and had them done with bifocals. When I ordered them, they ground the bifocal LINE to a slightly lower level (than usual). I can shoot without the interference of a line but still have the convenience of reading (bench or on the ground for prone etc). When I read I only use the bottom of the lens anyway and when I shoot I mostly use the upper portion of the glasses. I have to wear safety glasses at work and have them done the same way, with the line slightly lower. It's not a huge change but it really makes a difference. Before I had this done, I found the line caused some problems but this way is much better. Mr Maynard, you can't be that old, you're not shooting with a crutch (bipod) yet.
 
I am going to start shooting F Class when the CNIB issues me a white cane. Have you seen the size of those long range targets up close? They are huge, how could anybody miss them? A huge black spot on a 6ft or 8 ft white square, you sure don't need a scope to see them or shoot them at only 1000 yards.
 
Ask your optometrist about a double "D" bifocal.
This puts a reader lens cut on the top & bottom of the lens.
This was originally developed for watchmakers & the like.
My shooting glasses are cut like this & it allows me to look out the top portion of the lens & still focus on sights & scopes
 
Mr Maynard, wow do you ever give the F-Class shooters a solid kick in the pants with your "smack talk". Do they ever try to berate you or any TR shooters or do they just "knuckle under", fully acknowledging the superior shooting ability and intellect of TR shooters?

Oh believe me, the smack talk goes both ways, all in good fun of course. You should have heard the ribbing I took from the F'ers over winning the TR class at the Fall Palma.
 
"It's all in fun, till someone looses an eye." The people in the shooting community are great group, some of the nicest people. (Even the F'ers).
