I was recently given a Savage Mk II rifle sans scope.

So I went out to the store and got a cheap-ass Tasco .22 Riflescope for which I had to buy a spare set of Weaver rings to fit the rails that came with the rifle.

I managed to get it on, but there's contact between the barrel and the widest parts of the scope (front and back). Is that something I should try to rectify?

The rings do say they're "low style", but also mention they're good for objective lens diameters up to 40mm, and mine are a few mm smaller.

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yeah well everyone can afford to purchase at least a Leupould to on a plinker .22, eh?

Sounds like you need taller rings, try a set of medium's. Depends on the mount or rail and the combo of the rings to clear the bell of the scope from the barrel. You don't want to much room but it shouldn't be touching.

I run $50 buck Bushnells on .22 plinkers...works for me :)

That pretty much sums it up
