does any one know the specific name of this tool..... on many guns, example the m-305 / m-14 there is a screw (in the case of the m-305 / m-14, the stock liner screws on the side on the stock below the receiver) that, instead of having a flat head slot or Phillips head or Robson or what ever, just has 2 holes; what is the name of the tool for this? is it a screwdriver or some sort of spanner wrench? do they come in different sizes or are they adjustable? I want to order one but don't know what to call it to even look it up. A surlier would be helpful too.

thanks for any help.

if the screw head is exposed to the surface, there is also a tool that looks sort of like a pair of pliers that comes with a set of "points" that clamp in the ends of the tool and by opening or closing the "pliers" you can match them to the screw. Normally the tool is used for removing C clips from shafts and so forth

They are tamperproof screws, that particular flavour is called a spanner screw. Mooncoon is describing snap ring pliers.
Ok, thanks to all....the snap ring pliers would be what I used last time, but they seemed to be not very well suited and too flimsy; I'll try looking up a spanner screw driver and snake eye screw.
thanks again.

I actually saw spanner screwdriver heads (several sizes) in Lee Valley while waiting around as my wife was buying something last week. Unfortunately they didn't appear to be available individually, but only as part of a 'complete' set, priced around $30.

I doubt you'll find them individually unless you have a REAL hardware store close by, and even then those might only be available as part of a set. In this set on Amazon (same as I have) they are the ones at upper left. Probably worth buying a set of bits like this anyway as youl might run into a tri-wing or security Torx at some point.
