Hello all I am trying to track down some info on my Husqvarna Mannlicher stock .308 It is a model 458 and the ser# is 2648XX. My first question is does anyone have an idea when it would have been manufactured. Secondly I am having a hard time figuring out which Leupold quick detachable base to get. When I called Leupold they had nothing attached to a model 458 only bases for 1600. will the bases work from a 1600. When i went to Epps they seem to thing the Bases from a Mauser would work. Any info would greatly be appreciated . It also has a red field peep sight on it does anyone know what number it is.

Skydevaaben.com/index.xml has a great amount of information on Husqvarna firearms, you can look up your serial number and find
the date of manufacture. You can also ask well informed people on the site your questions and get the right answers! My 1956 1600
uses the 1640 action, in the 1960s they changed to a different action...the one you have. Another good source of information would be
Brownells.com...they know their stuff when it comes to firearms. Hope this helps! :)

The 1600 is the same ACTION as the 1640, only the barrel lenght differentiate these "models". Your complete model designation is 458-03 and it's only a North Amrican variation of the European model 1600H and it was made in 1962.

While of some utility Skydevaaben is just a partial transcription of the HVA Jaktvapen book and carries all the same misinformation, errors and omissions than the book. You will find very little North American models in there too.

I will answer your other questions in the sticky.

Did some quick googles, appears some were man for S&W in mid sixties before they went with Howa. Apparently based on model 1640. Is there a S&W stamp on it? I can read Swedish and Norwegian and will assist when I have more time on my hands. Any numbers and markings you can supply will help (pics).

As per I said above, this listing is not complete. A LOT of North American models are not included in there.

S&W rifles were made on both the 1640 and the 1900 action. They are the same as the HVA models, but stamped S&W but I really doubt the OP's one is a S&W.
