Question on importation of a vintage Longbranch

I am in the process of importing from the US a Longbranch (T) dated 1945. The importer has added duty of 3.5% as they claim the gun has been manufactured in England due to the "England" stamp on the receiver.

For those whom have done this before, do you know if I have to pay duty on a rifle manufactured in Canada at Longbranch in 1945?

Sounds like either you are being scammed, the importer is incompetent, or the paperwork was filled out in such a way that the importers hands are now tied.

I've done several imports (first one myself) from the US and would highly recommend prophet river.

However they have to work with the information that they are given.

Hi. Clay here from Prophet River. Is this being imported through us? If it is, and its made in Canada, there is no duty as its covered under NAFTA. The paperwork may have said 'England' resulting in us being charged 3.5% duty by the CBSA (through our broker) If we can prove its Canadian made, we can recover the duty. If this import is through us, I apologize for my lack of awareness as I rarely have anything to do with imports directly. Melissa et al look after most anything very competently.

The ability to recover the duty with proof of manufactor location is still valid. Its always more dificult after the fact but it can be done. Clay

The 'England' stamp has nothing to do with manufacturing anything. It's a pre-1968 export stamp required by the U.S. Government before their Gun Control Act of that year. I'd cancel the import immediately and talk to Clay.
