I have a Win Model 70 from 1976 in 30-06, I love this rifle but the wood is about as plain as you could possibly get in a stock. From time to time I have seen the odd original Winchester factory stock, same vintage, come up for sale with nicely figured wood. Most of them have been in 300 Win Magnum or similar.
My question is will my 30-06 action fit into one of these 300 Mag factory stocks from the same time frame? I'm assuming the 300 Mag. may be a different profile barrel but I don't have one in hand to compare with and I'm getting somewhat confusing information with my searches on line. Any help would be appreciated.

You will find that some actions were "bedded" at the recoil lug using some sort of synthetic material. I suspect thermosetting, not a curing resin like Acraglas, etc. Molded to the specific action. Might be necessary to fit your receiver to the lug area of the stock.

A few different companies use some sort of heat glue for bedding...

One can remove it quite easily and start over. I think the factories just do it to get the barrel in the center of the barrel channel as quickly as possible.

the epoxy bedding did not start till the 80's
it started with the first gen featherweight as said you will be fine swapping them out
you will have to use the 06 follower and mag box

I’m not certain on that vintage, but I believe more recent rifles have a different barrel profile between standards and magnums. I know the Remingtons are for sure in that time frame.

Not to highjack but a similar question that may add to the thread,

Does the post 64 (1968) magnum rifles (375hh) use the same stocks as the long action rifles (3006/300wm)?

I want a lightweight stock but I know nothing about these rifles.

That was one of my main concerns as well , I couldn't find a clear answer to that question.
