I just got a Savage Model 99 F in a .308 with the serial number 1113583 and was wondering if anyone has any information on the firearm?
Thanks,

made between 1955 and 1973. They were at serial number 566,000 by the end of 1950 and were making about 60,000 a year. yours may be from the early 70's. some also had a receiver marked 99M

according to savage99dotcom your iron is 1951 or later

99F Lightweight 20", 22", & 24" or featherweight 22" & 24" both in takedown Straight grip some with checkering Steel shotgun butt Straight, schnoble tip Bead in integral base on lightweight or raised ramp on featherweight

If you want some reading on Savage rifles go to the 24 hour campfire site. They have a Savage collector section with lots of info and very knowledgeable contributors.

I'll try to answer your question from memory without looking up the exact details. . The most desireable Model 99 F, 308, were built from 1955 or 57 until 1959 and were under serial number 1,000,000. . They were built in the Chicopee Falls Mass. . They used a letter, inside a small circle, on the lever boss to indicate the dom and if memory is correct from 1955 to 1960, they are H, I, J, K, L.

In 1960 Savage moved their outfit to Westfield Mass. with model changes following as years past.
- tang safety - aluminum rotary mag follower - eliminated the cartridge counter - replaced the rotary mag with a detachable box magazine - low grade stock wood and poor checkering.
