Hi, i have a Ruger M77 Mark II in 30-06. I am told that this is a 1:10 rate of twist. Can someone point me where i can find out which bullet weight would be ideal for this gun? Ideally if there is a site or formula that i could use for other guns as well it would be great. I.e. A tikka t3 lite in .223 ( i think it is 1:8 rate of twist)

Thx

There is no ideal bullet weight for a specific rate of twist. There will be a heaviest (longest) weight that a twist rate can stabilize and generally fast twist rates work better with heavier bullets but that is not a hard and fast rule. Sometimes a fast twist rate will still shoot lint bullets very well.

Your 06 1:10 twist is meant to stabilize up to 220 gr bullets or thereabouts.

Any bullet that is offered in factory 30-06 ammo will work just fine. The only bullets you would have trouble with would be exceptionally long VLD bullets.

Your .223 is the same... if it is an 8 twist it will handle most of the VLD bullets too.
