Question re backup sights

I have a question regarding installing Magpul MBUS on my Norinco With 10.5" barrel. The foregrip is Magpul MOE. Before I mount the picatinny rail on the foregrip, the top of the foregrip and the the receivers flat top rail are flush, so after the new rail is on the foregrip it will be a quarter inch or whatever higher. If I then mount the MBUS front sight on this higher rail, will the height difference be an issue??

Unless Magpul has some kind of MOE-specific sights, that won't work.

You only mount front sights on rigid rails, on guns without a pinned-on front sight tower.

This gun should have a front sight attached already?

Yes it has the A2 high front sight. I was contemplating switching it out for a lo pro gas block and using the Magpul MBUS front and rear sights.

Unless there's something I'm not getting here, that won't work, and regardless of height issues...I would not mount sights on a MOE handguard. Too floppy. Stick with the fixed FSB.

Ok so most of the reasons of getting rid of the fsb is to get a low profile gas block that fits under a nice free float handguard no?

Just get a free float hand guard with a rail on top, then you can mount any series if sights you want.

If you get rid of the A2 gas block and really stuck on keeping the Magpul handguard, you should pickup a railed gas block instead of a low profile one. Then you'll need to get a gas block height front sight.

I prefer Mike's approach and get a nice free floating handguard and LP gas block.

Just mount a rear sight and leave the front as is.
I put a Matec UDGI back up rear on and it works fine.

I could be wrong, but I thought I recalled Magpul saying you weren't supposed to mount Magpul buis on gas blocks due to the heat?

FWIW, unless there is a specific reason I have to do something else, keeping the FSB is what I would do any time I had the option.

It's a more durable setup and IMO preferable for most applications.

You could go an alternate route. Get a folding front sight gas block, like the ARMS #41-B-L that Wolverine sells. Replaces the A2 sight, but keeps the traditional triangular shape, and can be folded down when not needed.
