Question:
Say I'm party hunting with two buddies. I am going to be hunting for 6 days, my buddies 3. If I shoot a deer on day 1-3, can I attach a buddies tag, so I still have my tag to use later in the week when they are gone (assuming of course we don't tag out as a group?)
Thanks in advance for any input.

Not legal, you have to hunt as a party!

We'd be party hunting when they were there, I'm wondering if I could attach another persons tag to a deer I harvest when we are hunting together, to save mine for when they are not there.

in the regs about party hunting;

you gotta be within 5km of your buddy that is placing the tag,
all of you have to be actively participating in the hunt.

the tricky part is that, the tag has to go "immediately" on the animal, but 5km is quite the distance in a forest.

Totally legal, use your buddies tags while they’re there and save yours for when you are by yourself.

Page 29 of 104 in the 2017 Regs:

The person who kills the wildlife while hunting in a party shall immediately notify all other members of the party that the wildlife has been killed and the game seal holder shall immediately affix the game seal to the wildlife in the manner indicated in the instructions accompanying the game seal.

At this point, you and your party members at the kill site must determine the category of animals that may still be hunted. You must then make sure your other party members, who did not come to the kill site, are informed. The hunter in your party who killed the animal and the hunter who attached the game seal may continue hunting provided other members of your party possess valid, unused game seals for the wildlife being hunted.

In a word, Yes.

I thought the shooter could not party hunt until after his own tag was used? In other words, if you shoot a deer and have a valid license and kill tag, are you not legally required to use your own tag on that animal?

Anyone who is there hunting when the deer is killed can affix their tag, does not have to be the shooter.
But only the person with the tag can affix it, no one else, and the deer can’t be moved until the tag is attached

Yes as long as you are hunting as a group at the time of the kill and you all have been drawn into the hunt if it is a controlled hunt
