Question regarding Antlerless tag

controlled hunt draw success does not mean you have
2 deer licences. it means your allowed too harvest your 1 deer during that time period with the weapon on tag.
kill during that season your general tag is used up.

maybe a conservation officer can post on here and clear thing up for everyone.

So... two photos below - the first one is from my license summary... which is why caused me to ask this question. The second is from the huntandfishontario website under “draw entries and results”

The draw results would seem like the antlerless tag is separate and apart from the the controlled validation for “any deer”

This is what your deer tag looks like, it tells you that you can shoot an antlerless deer in the unit specified with a bow only, or antlered deer in any unit. If you have a controlled hunt validation, then you use this tag for that hunt as well. This tag is only valid for one deer. If you fill it during bow season, you can only hunt the controlled hunt if you party hunt with someone who still has a tag, or you were able to get a second tag.

This is what your controlled hunt validation looks like, and in this case I can shoot either antler or antlerless in the unit and time frame specified with the firearm specified. It may occasionally say antlerless only, or antlered only. That applies for the week of the controlled hunt only. You use your deer tag above. If you are unsuccessful during the controlled hunt you can go back to bow hunting.

I think I have the answer now...

Took a look at my deer tag. It clearly states antlered or antlerless in 80.

So I can take 1 of any ### deer between October 1 and December 31.

During the controlled hunt i can use a shotgun and take that one deer of any ##### If I’m not successful, in the controlled I can still have an Antlerless deer in the subsequent bow season.... that’s my interpretation of what’s written on the deer tag itself and the controlled validation...

Thank you... just prior to replying above I went and looked at my actual tag and came to the same conclusion.

You only have one deer tag and that one deer tag can be used as follows

1. On one doe or buck in WMU 80 during the bow hunting portion of the season because you were successful in the antlerless draw for that WMU...
2.Or you can use that same deer tag during the control hunt in WMU 80 on either ### during the control hunt
3. Or you can use that same one deer tag to hunt a buck in any open WMU in Ontario during the open season...

You only have the one tag.....so use it wisely :)

At this point I just hope I can get to use it this year lol.

Bingo.

Controlled validation just means you can pew pew for a week in the WMU.

But lets be clear... as it is stated in the regs, READ IT. He could still shoot an antlerless during the controlled (validation saying antlered or antlerless) even if he was not successful in the antlerless draw. one tag, 2 separate hunts.
