Watching homeland and Carrie shoots Quinn with what looks like 300 win mag from about 100 yards? Would be really be able to shrug it off with just a kevlar vest on? Wouldn't the impact break bone??

he'd have to be wearing steel or ceramic plates in the vest to stop any centerfire rifle round, and even then the spalling could cause serious injury.

haha yeah i know that - only Homeland is considered at least kind of "realistic" so I was just expecting what looked like a 300 win mag to not be stopped by a kevlar vest. So much for realism

So I looked up a chart or two. A class IIIA vest, the highest shown can stop up to a 44Mag but no rifle rounds are listed. On the ceramic plate charts the highest category IV is good for a full power armour piercing 30-06. Answer. Vest not enough, ceramic not enough for a 300 win mag at 100 yards unless it is class IV plate and a non-armour piercing bullet (probable as I don't think you can readily get armour piercing commercial ammo).

And lets hope that those in power feel the same way.


Most any hunting bullet would be "armour piercing" I believe.
