why is there .007 difference in scope diameters that i own.? what would a mount lapping tool be in diameter for a standard? 1 inch and 30 mm exactly?

I just lapped a 1" set of rings tonight.

Scope measure from .989" to 1.003" along its tube in various places.

The lapping bar was .995" to 1.001"

thanks. question.. is a lapping bar smooth? i am planning making one on my lathe should it me a little rough or smooth

Smooth , the lapping compound will give you your cutting ability, my compound is a 220 grit, are you also making aligning bars???

easy parts to make are an action wrench and lapping tools for scope mounts. any other suggestions ?

Aluminum bedding pillars would be a snap, oh those damn pilots for Redding trimmers,lol.

speaking of pillers. i have yet to figure out how to determin the length of each pillar. how does one measure the inside of the stock when it is assembled or do they not touich the floor plate and are bedded into the stock flush one the top only??

Barrel nut wrench for savages might generate some demand, if you are thinking of selling them. That coupled with a savage action wrench might make me consider switchbarrel savages again.

truth be told im current project is builting nuts for my savages out of stainless that can be removed with a standard wrench. octogon with rounded edges. ps you don't need a action wrench for savgte just a barrel vise and the wrench and twist off unless you have long screws in your mounts which kind makes like a set screw on the threads
