Question to owners of SKS 7.62x39 - a possible large and small animals you killed on a hunt of your SKS?
What kind of cartridge you use, the manufacturer of the cartridge, and the distance at which you killed the beast?
What are your impressions?
If possible - attach photos.
Thank you all.

No pic's, but I've shot whitetail and muledeer with mine. 110-120 yds top. But they were not in flight. I don't think that an SKS would drop them if they were leaving town
If they are standing there with ears up or better yet unaware of your presence(that'd be Muledeer there, they are not wily like Whitetails ),put one in the front end, they crumple pretty good. I wouldn't try to shoot one on a run, it's not that important. Better to get'em tomorrow with a clean shot than to gutshoot one and chase them for...who knows? I think it's disrespectfull to try for dodgy shots, unhumane too.
Used Igman soft points, lots of muzzle blast and noise(probably unburned powder, a reloader would have a better opinion than me). I'm going to try Wolf soft points this year, less noise and blast.
Good Hunting

Just don't used surplus ammo and you should be fine. A 7.62x39 is pretty close to a 30-30 is anyways. As far as running shots go (or any shot for that matter), if you arn't comfortable with the shot don't take it. If you are then do it. My buck last year was at 100 yards on a broadside run but i knew where I had to put the bullet and he only went another 10 yards. It is all about what you are comfortable with.

To each his own, good shooting. I just don't think a running deer tastes as good as a standing one. And I'm a meat hunter not a trophy hunter. Good hunting.

I bought a few hundred rounds at wholesale sports three years ago... have a little left but really save it for hunting now as it works so good in my 7.62x39 ruger m77. I haven't seen any for sale in the last year or two.

Igman or Bear?
Beg pardon, my I should read your original post above 1st.
Disregard my question please

I agree with a standing deer tasting better. The problem was i was too picky earlier in the season and it was my last day. Things are different this year.
