Like the title says, I got questions about K31 swiss rifles...

1- How do I know the year of production of the Rifle ???

2- Should I use grease or oil in the groove of the receiver, I mean the groove for the *cam follower plate* ???

3- Which pieces should be oiled/greased or should not ???

Thx for the links Diopter, those are nice sites but I would like to have a quick answer to the #2 question... There is so much stuff in there...

Short answer:
Oil the firing pin and spring and lightly greases everything else.

This week I had some time to read those links. There's a ton of interesting informations.

But they clean their bore and chamber with grease !!! Really ??? I must say they use grease for about everything but clean bore and chamber with grease was the cherry on top...

What you think about that guys ?

Hey Diopter, is there a K31 *club* in Montreal ???

Here my K...

Yes, they grease the bore after firing, preferably while barrel is still warm, and de-grease it before next firing by running a jag and patch through it. This removes a lot of the carbon.

Grease is applied with a nylon brush on a cleaning rod so that it coats the bore and groves without clogging it entirely.

Don't think of it as cleaning.
It is actually as preventing tarnish/oxidation from forming on the cupro-nickel deposit in the rifling or steel of the chamber.

Have you ever seen a BAD condition Swiss rifle barrel?

They don't over clean them. Rifle is used entire year without cleaning. Come winter, then it really gets cleaned.

Yes there is a Swiss rifle club based in Montreal, but we shoot somewhere else.

Nice condition K31. Did you buy it the the W&F diopter with the Gehmann 511 iris included?
Gehmann also have the 562 iris that will fit the W&F diopter, it has the 6 color filter option.

No I bought the Diopter sights from Theshootingcentre...
I don't know alot about them...
The sights are in amazing condition and one of the link you provide me talks about them...Very usefull links...

Can you tell me more or add a pic of those 562 Iris... I'm curious

Is there any different *reticles* for the front sights ??? I think you change them...???

Same way as the Swiss do it. I use copper solvent once a year.

Good fun and some hard work for me. Mostly shoot near Farnham.

The W&F front sight for the K31 use Lyman 17A size front size inserts.

I think that will be helpfull...

On one of the other link there is a section of k31 acuracy tuning...
The guy talk about *tuned* action screws...

From what I can see the Diopter sights are good ones...And I think I had them at a fair price

The only downside is I don't have the tool to tighten the sights properly.
Can you show me one with a graduated rule so I can duplicate it...
Oh and don't forget the thickness...
I already saw one on a picture but I dunno the dimensions.

Thx 4 all Diopter !!!
Ben
