I remember a while back that Canada post would no longer accept dummy or empty ordanace in the mail system my question is, is that shipping within Canada or shipping outside Canada .I'm asking because I want to thin out my artillery shell/casing collection and I want to make sure I can ship stuff

TIA

It is prohibited for mailing both in Canada and out of Canada.
Hard to say if empty brass cases will fall in to that category....I think they were more worried about the explosive end of the bullet. Still, ordnance is ordnance.

There was an article in the Canadian Gazette from when they were implementing this. Also, if you go to Canadiansoldiors.com, there was a long (and in some cases very heated) discussion about this topic.

From Canada post's website:
The list that follows is a general overview of prohibited items, or items that may have special restrictions on how or to whom they may be shipped. These items must be properly prepared and meet applicable requirements for mailing.
4.1

Replica or Inert Munitions

Replica or inert munitions are non-mailable, as well as other devices that simulate explosive devices or munitions, including replica or inert grenades or other simulated military munitions, whether or not such items are for display purposes

I hope that doesn't include snap caps and headspace gauges. I've got both of those in the mail at the moment coming from the USA.

That's right, get that info out there for the whole world to see. Just in case you are doing something illegal.

I doubt that many US exporters or ebay sellers know or care what the Cdn postal regulations are. That said I would bet that your headspace gages and snap caps will be OK.

A related story from friend in Saskatchewan:
He ordered a pair of the blue dummy 3.5" rockets from a supplier in the US. A few weeks later the RCMP bring him in for questioning as they had blown the rockets up, and claimed they were live. This guy is a vet, works with the boy scouts, and likely has never had anything more than a speeding ticket in his life.
So once done with them he calls back the US supplier and mentions that the Cdn Customs/RCMP blew up his rockets and claimed they were real. American says no problem....I'll send you another pair.
2 weeks later the US guy calls up my friend and says the BATF has instructed him that he cannot send these out of the country.
Since then, all my friends US parcels have been opened, and anything remotely questionable has been siezed.

This occured more than a decade before 9-11.

The general rule for shipping via mail is - If it look like it could be live, don't send it. Empty cases don't look live, they look empty. They are worried about dummy grenades, bombs, etc shutting down sorting facilities and scaring the plebs.

When I used to collect a lot of inert ordnance (well before 9-11!), I always disasembled the items I shipped so it was readilly apparent they were empty.. I even shipped the items in separate parcels sometimes (fuses in one parcels, bodies in another...). Also, it is important that your parcel is very sturdy: tape the box ALL OVER with a LOT of tape! Ordnance is often heavy so boxes tend to split open and a falling shell rolling on the floor can cause some excitement! You can still send inert ordnance via courier... Some ordnance looks pretty innocuous but most grenades for exemple are very scary to most people...

Nothing livens up your day at the PO like a hand grenade!

Well I beg to differ. I picked up a rifle at the PO one day I had bought off the forum here..

They handed me the box, I slung it over my shoulder to walk out with it and the gun flew out of the box and slid across the floor and stopped against the wall...

No one said anything. No one moved they all just looked at me...

I calmly went over, picked up my rifle, put it in the box and said:

"I'm fairly sure that was not loaded"

And then I walked out the door.

Everyone at th ePO knows me by name now...:D

It happend about 3-4 years ago.

I once sent four boxes of .45LC unprimed brass to a friend in Cornwall.
They were delivered by TWO POLICE CARS! (by the way, there was NOTHING illegal about sending or recieving them!):runaway:
