Good point I should say a bit more about it. First Sierra match king 135's are awesome in the rifle (.270). Second Hornady SST's are terrible! Best shooting rifle I have ever had granted I also started re-loading during the same timeframe with this rifle. Comparing the rifle to the others I have owned (Tikka, rem, savage) it feels the best in terms of quality. Barrel heats up quick but does not whip around too bad or throw shots. Just let it cool and you can have some fun. Being honest it will shoot under an inch at 100 meters 5 shots say 1/3 of the groups you lay down. First shot always goes where you expect it. I have shot it as far as 700 meters at gongs and love it! I put a Rapid z 800 on it and with it on 10.5 power it is dead on out to 600 meters using sierra game king 130's and 60 grains h4831.

I own a M70 extreme weather ss in .30.06 and Its a great rifle, I'm not a big fan of the factory B&C stock but it's one of the better synthetic stocks that come on factory rifles today. I have a Echols legend stock (McMillan) that will be replacing it soon. The trigger breaks fairly decent but a little on the heavy side for me. As far as accuracy goes I have found mine to be outstanding, I have pushed 3-4 different types of factory ammo through it and all Have produced 1 to 1.5 inch 3 shot groups at 100 yards. With handloads I have managed to tighten my groups to an honest 1/2" to 5/8" at 100 for 3 shots, and that is consistent group to group. I'm shooting a 165 gr nosler accubond with 56.5 gr of h4350.

I have a featherweight in stainless 30-06 that I bought in january. The finish and fit is nice the only complaint is the floorplate as mentioned above. My accuracy is around an inch with store bought ammo. i really like the slimness of the forestock on this rifle its comfortable and the stock shoulders well for me. i tried quite a few other rifles before buying this one (hunting buddies). the recoil pad is nice too my other rifle is old and has a brass plate so its a luxury.

lots of people want to see pictures so.....

I bought a M70 sporter in 338 Win Mag last October. Was not able to hunt with it last year.

Here is my range report. Decent trigger. Fit and finish better than anything else I have under 1k. Goes Bang.

I'll buy another of the new M70 winchesters, great rifle for the money.

I own two of the new M-70's, a feather weight in .243 and a 30-06 in Super Grade (75th edition). Had them plus my Kimber 8400 in 30-06 to the range to-day. All my rifles have wood stocks. Iam traditional as I enjoy a good piece of wood on my guns.

The .243 loves the Nosler BT varmits in 70 gr. and the partitions in 95gr. both loads use varget powder. Group sizes average 3/4". The Horandy 65 gr VMax. will group a couple inches to the left of the noslers and group at 1 1/4".

The M-70 30-06 likes noslers partions and accubonds. The load it likes best is the 165 gr. over 57 gr. of IMR4350, consistant 5/8" 3 shot groups. Sighted 2" high at 100yds. The 180 grs suprisingly also print 2" high with a bigger groups of 1". The 200 gr. also print 1" but even with the bull 1\2" R. The 180's and the 200 gr. are loaded with either IMR 4350 or IMR 4831, I was experimenting today.

The Kimber 30-06 with the above loads and bullet weights is a consistant 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" inch group shooter. It will not stair step the three different bullet weights as nicely as the M-70, there a little more eratic and off centre.
The Kimber is a very nice rifle but so far I just can not get any better accuracy with it. Not to complain though it has taken a nice bull moose and two deer in the last couple years with no issues using the 165gr noslers.

So all in all Iam very pleased with the new M-70's. I hunted with a 1973 vintage one in 30-06 for 35 yrs and had no issues with it either. The only quirk they have because of that big extractor in the control round feed is it is hard to dam near impossible to close the bolt on a round put straight into the chamber. The owners manual even states single rounds must be brought up from the mag. I have my extractors adjusted so I can load single rounds with out issue, but it may not be everbodies cup of tea play with the extractors.

Mocel 70

I bought a featherweight about a year after the new production resumed. I had been shooting big magnums for years, and was tired of the recoil. I was set on getting a 30-06. I did check out a few stores for the best price at the time and found a used 280 in a featherweight for $20 more than the new production 30-06. I decided to pass on the 280 as the new trigger and recoil pad were first on my mind. It has been a great rifle for me. Great trigger, I do not recall having any issues with the floorplate, in fact I had remingtons in the past with much worse floorplates (and accuracy problems). I found some old Combined Technoligies 150 grain partition gold bullets, and it is a deadly combo! With one season to its credit it has put a 140" 4x4 whitetail on the wall and a cinnamin black bear. As well as a 163" whitetail for a buddy.

I had some concerns about changing from a mag back to a standard caliber, but as long as you are familiar with trajectory you are good to go. Great rifle!

You do that alot?

Really?? What type of PF are you using cuz I've never had that happen with a properly operating PF or CRF and I've owned lots over the yrs?

FTR ... I like and own both types, but don't see any advantage for the average North American hunter to use a CRF over a PF.

If you just plain like it better, that's fine. There's no other reason needed to own one. Just don't let on it's all that better, cuz it's not.

.

X2.

Own both.

See no advantage to me whatsoever with the Not-So-Dangerous Game that I hunt. Actually find the PF M70 smooth as glass. And if the game turned dangerous:eek:, just pull the bolt all the way back and push all the way front. Yes folks it's that simple.
Too many Safari videos or Youtube Lion attacks can cause this type of jitter in PF Rifle owners.;)

I bought a 30-06 extreme weather from a gunutz in BC a few months ago. He told me he got 5/8" groups with it and I got near that out behind the barn with some old ammo just to try it out.

I was really impressed with the recoil pad. I am used to a steel butt plate on my pre 64 30-06 and there was a big difference with the new one. Only matters at the range though. No fit or finish problems with the one I got. I like the gun a lot. The rifle is actually better than the pre 64 IMO.

No push feeds for me.
