Hi all, needing some information on these, first is the Colt 9MM factory bolt always marked on the left hand side with the big "C" ? I have a bolt that supposedly belongs to an all new matching original Colt "16"in. upper but there is no C on the left side like that of the rifle or carbine bolt carriers, it is identical to the Colt one in my Colt reference materials. Does Rock River or Bushmaster make identical copies to the Colt ?
Next I have the 9MM buffer for it, it does not appear to be similar to the type pictured in Black Rifle 2, it was bought from J + T Surplus in the U.S. a reputable Colt parts dealer, nothing indicating mfg. it looks more like a modern M4 type but no stampings, feels heavier though compared to an M4 H and does not have the base grooved as per the one in the ref. photo's I am told it is Colt, mfg. perhaps ? Also I was told that the actual 9MM carbine buffer tube is not the same diameter as the 5.56 rifle/carbine and is shorter in length as is the buffer spring, is this true ?
Last question, is a Colt 9MM mag release different internally than a rifle one, do I need to get one and switch it for my regular AR lower ? As I have only the 9 MM upper, is it required to switch out a regular rifle hammer for the lighter 9MM one when attaching it to a regular AR lower ? Finally what mods. are required to Uzi mags to make them work in the one piece Colt mag adapter. Thanks for the info. g2 ?

I have a colt RO634 9mm smg it is factory original the bolt/carrier has NO markings at all that i can see

buffer while thier were i think 3 different typs for the 9mm I have the 1st type and no markings on it and im too lazy to take it out to look
as for the lower you need the mag blocks to convert the mag well to 9mm

you may need a VERY VERY hard to find bolt stop 9mm with the long tail if you have the original blocks if not the reg m16 on works

the mag release is the same the hammer needs to be a 9mm through if you have the original 9mm fullauto carrier you can use a m16 hammer i did for 2 years (rifle still is semi)

the UZI mags need to have the same square hole cut in the side as the colt 9mm mags they MUST be exact or feed problems will exist and you have NO last shot hold open with non colt mags

Colt 9 Mm Ar Upper

Thanks to all for the information, from what I can ascertain it is more than likely my Colt 9 MM is a genuine factory upper, not a parts gun which makes me happy. I also now know what components are specific for use in the upper for functioning. Cheers. g2.

RRA 9mm parts are identical to Colt and interchangeable.

For the hammer you can use the 9mm version, M16 version or DPMS. If their is an indent on the face of the hammer at the top (most AR15 semi hammers are like this) then it will get hung up on the bolt and you will have to seperate the upper from the lower to free up the parts (Ask me how I know).

Their is an excellent FAQ over on Arfcom in the pistol caliber section on all of the differences between 9mm and 5.56 parts.

NOT all rra parts are the same

as i said above IF you have the original colt 9mm sysytem with the 2 piece mag blocks you NEED a colt bolt catch as it has the extended tail NO other makers make this part they all use the newer mag blocks that work with the .223 bolt catch

it took me 1 year to find/get a replacement for mine when i broke it

Colt 9 Mm Ar Upper

Thanks to all you 9MM AR lovers for your info., I have also ordered a Colt 9MM one piece mag adapter to go with it, I have input on the 2 piece, nothing on the one piece factory insert other than it gives you ease of removal and flexibility to change to different lowers. I was told this is superior to the 2 piece pinned type so will use it. Will this require further specialized parts ? I think it is comming together, Colt 9MM hammer, buffer, 16in. upper and bolt this should be all I need to complete a 9MM interchangeble upper right ? Cheers all. g2.
