Hi All
I am new to the world of guns and I have a few questions.

1) When do you to provide proof of a club membership?
When you Register a restricted or get a ATT?

2) I am looking for a good club to join close to home
I am in NE Calgary, Looking for something with a handgun range and ideally a rifle and shotgun range to. Suggestions please

3) Are there any open (cheep or free) ranges in or around Calgary?

4) Where are some good places to get ammo?
both cheep places and quick places
I know Canadian tire and Wal-Mart sell ammo but do they sell handgun ammo.

5) Also any reviews of Marstar and the Norinco Tokarev.

Thanks in advance.

Not sure about rifle (other than rimfire) but for handgun you have a few choices.. TSE, Calgary Rifle & Pistol Club, SJR Range (Closed until furthur notice)

3) Are there any open (cheep or free) ranges in or around Calgary?

There was Homestead Range but the road washed out and it should be open by Christmas.

Pro Line Shooters in Inglewood (9th Ave SE). Walmart for handgun ammo= .22 LR

No

Thanks in advance.

When you buy your handgun, the seller will initiate the transfer. Then you provide a copy of your PAL and club membership to be faxed to the CFC. Then you call the CFC and ask for your temporary and long-term ATT.

You can get cheap quality ammo at Wholesale Sports.

Hi All
I am new to the world of guns and I have a few questions.

Check out the New Shooters and Mentors section of the Newbie section as it has a list of people willing to give new shooters tips and help. I'm one of them listed and am willing to help you out any way I can-- feel free to PM me and we could go shooting even.

The Shooting Edge is the best place overall because you can shoot year round comfortably (it's indoor) and you can shoot pistols, rifles, shotties... whatever.

3) Are there any open (cheep or free) ranges in or around Calgary?

Not really. The best you can do is find a landowner that will let you hunt varmints on his land. The Homestead/Sibbald range was free before, but who knows what it'll be like when it re-opens... it's too far to drive anyway.

4) Where are some good places to get ammo?

I go to Russell's or Wholesale sports for ammo and ammo reloading supplies. The Shooting Edge has some good deals on bulk 9mm, .22 LR and others.

5) Also any reviews of Marstar and the Norinco Tokarev.

Marstar is good to deal with, go ahead with confidence

Thanks For the info Everybody

pdubois SJR is closed? do you know why or for how long it may be closed?
It is one of the options I was looking at for a range
Thanks

SJR is closed due to ricochet problems. No idea when it will re-open... maybe not at all. IMO it sounds like a conspiracy to close it down. From everything I've heard about it, getting in to shoot there can be challenging as they have several clubs that use it and they can only be open for shooting when range officers are present for some reason.

I shot at The Shooting Edge when I lived in Calgary it was a good range if a little small.

But there is not many ranges in Calgary.

Not that many gun shops as well.

As said above Russell's is good for info but French's is huge. :D

you provide the club info when you apply for a LATT (longterm ATT) or TATT (temporary ATT)

ie if you buy the gun in a store, they will ask for your club info because you'll need a TATT to get it home.

if you buy online, you dont need an TATT because its shipped, no club info required.

could be, its been awhile since I bought a restricted via online. I cant see any info regarding that qualification on the cfc website, its not the best layed out though maybe im not seeing it.

from cfc's website
All firearms must have a valid Canadian registration certificate. To be able to register a firearm, an applicant must be at least 18 years old and have a valid firearms licence allowing them to possess that class of firearm.
