Hi All --

I have a 2012 Norinco M305 that I will be putting into a new Boyd's Walnut stock. A few questions to anyone who has done this before me:

(I don't have my rifle in front of me, which makes it more difficult to plan!!)

1) Can some of the metal pieces be salvaged off the Norinco stock, or am I better off getting a set of USGI pieces from Treelinem14.com?
2) Specifically, do I need the metal stock liner?
3) This is the kit I was considering:

http://www.treelinem14.com/M14-M1A-USGI-Stock-Metal-Set-Excellent-M14BPEXBU.htm

I was also going to get the front stock ferrule.

The Boyd's is sold as finished, and it looks beautiful. Do I need to do anything else to seal the wood, or just leave it as is?

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Grey

Don't bother with the kit. Transfer it all over from the Norinco stock. You might need a new ferrule if the crimp is too difficult to work with. As for finishing and sealing, I guess it depends on Boyds' definition of finished is. I suppose there's no harm in sealing it some more if you prefer.

I got mine unfinished, got a new ferrule and used all the other metal stuff from the chinese stock. I did the bedding myself after a Hungry clinic. Sinished the stock to my liking. I had some M14Doctor Accurizing done. I swapped in a quality spring guide, worked the trigger assembly and voila!

havent seen a finished one myself, but im sure it'll be fine as is. have you already ordered/gotten your stock? I recently heard people complaining that they couldnt order them from boyds anymore, both the finished and unfinished ones. I used the original stock liner and ferrule from the nowinco no problems

Very nice indeed.

OK -- I can get a ferrule from Treelinem14 if I need one. I am planning in installing a Sadlak spring guide.

Where did you get information on how to work the trigger assembly?

Also, what kind of cheek pad is that? I definitely need one -- I have the Basset high mount, which works well, but it needs the cheek pad.

Anyway, thanks for the info -- I'll stick with the metal from the original stock.

Cheers,

Grey

Good to know that the stock liner and ferrule worked -- thanks!

He holds clinics every now and then. Check the events section. There is a whole lot of info in the Sticky'd threads on the Main Battle Riffles section. Check those out too.
