i've been researching a muzzle brake to replace the flash hider supplied with my norinco m305B that will reduce recoil, climb, and if possible, repor heard from the shooters perspective. and this one seems to fit the bill quite well, however the internet is many things and one of those is a wealth of fallacies. i wanted to to know if this is a drop in replacement for my current muzzle device, without tooling. and what options i would have as a canadian with a non-restricted PAL to procure this muzzle device with the least amount of time and/or difficultly.

thank you gunnutz for you're assistance.
:)

I would take Smith Enterprises at their word. They are know for quality products. I've never had one of those USCG flash suppressors, but they look to be an excellent bolt on product. You should be able to simply reuse your M305 castle nut and mount it up. I know a USGI flash suppressor fits perfectly on on my Norinco's, using the Norinco castle nut of course.

i am of the same belief in smith enterprises quality, however brownells has a fair reputation as well, which is why it bothers me that they state compatibility issue on their QA section here.

also, still requesting the best option to source this item.

It is a drop in replacement. Check out armtac.com

You don't need castle nut pliers to tighten the castle nut but I would recommend it. I don't use them because I'm not concerned about scratching up the castle nut.

Can't go wrong with an SEI muzzle brake ... zero rise, barely any kickback ... loved it on my 'rinco shorty.

Is there a reason why you don't order one from Brownells?

yeah, this:

Sorry, we are unable to ship muzzle brakes to Canada due to Dept. of State regulations.

Thanks,

Too bad. Guess things have changed - got mine from Brownells last October. If that's true then I can't see anyone getting SEI brakes here. Not legally.

Are you sure they meant muzzle brakes and not flash hiders? Did you get an International Import Certificate from the Canadian government?

@fugawi, i'm sure they're legal in canada, expecially since there are other canadian sites that import them. this struck me as a canned responce, since the question i actually asked dealt with more then just where i'm from. i can easily do me business elsewhere.

In my dealings with Brownells they have always been most helpful, phoning or emailing me with updates. Brownells manager of export sales even emailed me a list of items stocked by Brownells that they cannot sell to Canadians, not due to ITAR, but because their suppliers have agreements with Canadian distributors to sell these items in Canada.

But in my experience Brownells expects Canadians to have their paperwork in order and will not process orders if it is not complete nor will they 'fix' any mistakes. As I understand it they take your paperwork, do what is required of Brownells, then pass it along to the relevant U.S. Government department for approval (or not). If your paperwork isn't up to snuff then its rejected by the U.S. government - end of story.

With SEI muzzle brakes - these are sometimes on back order at Brownells and sometimes temporary not available as production is destined for the U.S. military. This could be the case - you could check directly with SEI.

giwolf - I think its more about Brownells not wanting to risk financial or worse penalties, which can be severe if companies are caught disregarding ITAR. I believe I read in a forum that Midway was fined $100,000 USD for not adhering to ITAR.
