That's right, Grouse Man. There were 1,024,700 Model 1897s produced before it was discontinued in 1957. The 12 gauge outsold the 16 gauge nine to one, making the 16 gauge somewhat uncommon.

The trench sweeper was manufactured until 1945.

These are regarded as conservative estimates.

The Model 1897 had a light blue finish until 1945, when it was replaced by black.
