And no, not a single Enfield was harmed in the formulation of this question! :p

Really briefly...I have a bolt-action .30-30, and was wondering if SMLE stripper-clips would be a good bet to accomodate the rimmed .30-30?

Just a curiousity, really...I'll find out as soon as I stock-up on .30-30 later this week....

The 30-30 has a rim OD of 0.506", thickness of 0.063" and the brass is 0.421" just above the rim. The 303 has a rim OD of 0.540", thickness of 0.064" and the brass is 0.455" above the rim. Doubtful it would stay in the clip for long.

The 8x57, 30-06 and all derivatives have a rim OD of 0.473", thickness of 0.054" and a groove diameter of 0.409". It is doubtful that a stripper for these cases would be big enough to fit the 30-30.

Edit - I just measured an 8x57 stripper clip and it measured 0.482" inside the edges and 0.421" inside the lips. There is no way a 30-30 would fit in that.

I just tried five .30-30 in an Enfield stripper clip. They fit, but rather loosely. I suppose you could tighten up the sides with a pair of pliers, but I'm not sure why you would want to bother in the first place. Or is your rifle an old Enfield fitted to hold stripper clips?

You MIGHT get it to feed if you're playing with a converted 1889 Schmidt-Rubin.

But it IS a handy way to carry 5 rounds in a pocket so you can get at them for a quick field reload.

Hmmmmm.... something new to try.

How many civilian 30-30 bolt action rifles have a charger bridge.

And where would I use the stripper-clips

Also do you have any problem with your barrel over heating when firing long bursts? :D

Exactly what I was going for.....:)

They fit in 7.62X51 strippers.

....here's hoping!

I don't think the Schmidt has one, either.....:(

That ain't no .303! :yingyang:

With the Schmidt-Rubin, you could place the charger at the rear of the magazine, let it sit there and then possibly strip them down. They will be loose enough that it should work.

7.62x54R..... Tradex lists chargers. Big problem is that most guys can't get them to work. What you do is load the rounds in a pyramid formation: outside rounds resting on the charger surface, inside rounds resting on the inner rims of the outside rounds, centre round resting on the insides of the rims of the inner rounds. Works, too: that's how the Tsar's army did it. See "Text Book of Small Arms - 1909", Plate LXII, facing page 192.

7.62x39 chargers.... ought to be some around somewhere, what with all that Czech ammo running around. Have NO idea how you'd get it to feed in anything other than an SKS or a VZ-52/57.

So it's not wholy unlike the way the Enfield rounds load into the stripper...:)

When I go hunting I use a Marlin M336CS and I carry 5 rounds held on a .308Nato IVI stripper clip. When it is time to load they come off quickly one at a time. I find it better then loose or boxed ammunition.

My 2 cents

Not completely unlike the way you load a Lee-Enfield charger, but not just the same, either.

You load the Lee-Enfield charger down-up-down-up-down: _-_-_

Think of a pyramid.... let's try _-'-_ There are your 5 rounds in the MN charger. _ and _ support - and -, but - and - support ' fully.

Workd, too.

Damn, I wish I could get this keyboard to do what's running around in my head.

Might be better if it doesn't: lots of completely diseased stuff in there! LOL!

Have fun! Hope this helps....

Yea, 30-30 definitely won't fit on a 762x39 stripper clip

When you buy 30-30 it usually comes in 10rd plastic things, stick one on your belt.
