Can the handguards on a AR be changed from the rounded ones to the triangle ones with out having to change the handguard cap or the Delta ring (slip ring?).
I ask this because I'am looking at getting a Norinco CQ311,and its (found this info post here, and probably should have looked more.)basically a AR-15A1, right? and feeling a little nostalgic.:D

so to make it more retro ,change the handguards for a start, can they be swapped out with no new hardware???

Green Horse six:

Both the A1 (Triangular Handguards) and the A2 (Round Handguards) use the triangular front handguard cap. Only the Carbines use the round handguard cap.

The delta ring is the same internal diameter.

I have a CQ311 and it’s a fine rifle. The finish is shyt but what do you expect for a $500-800 dollar rifle (they have gone up in price)

Anyway, the first thing you should know is that the front hand guard cap on the CQ is ROUND! – So you’ll have to modify any hand guard that you purchase besides the original Norinco type (So far as I know)

I’ve not seen the A1 (triangular) hand guards modified to fit the round cap of a CQ, this dose not mean it can’t be done. I have seen the A2 hand guards reworked with a dremel tool to fit the round cap.

I’ve got a Chinese carry handle goose neck mount and a Chinese Fakepoint (Aimpoint Clone) to complete the package.

100% Chinese AR15 with optical sight for under $600 with every thing purchased NIB (My AR was purchased NIB from a dealer when they only cost $500). I also have a Chinese M9 bayonet for it.
:dancingbanana: You've got to love the cheap Chinese labour

P.S. I've been wanting a RRA M4 from Questar and will be giving them a call with my Visa number if I can jsut sweat talk the wife a little.
