Quick AR15 question

s the AR-15 platform considered a pistol and therefore is allowed to have a 10 round magazine, or rifle and therefore 5?

Magazine capacity is based on what the magazine was designed for, not what it is actually used in. Therefore, to answer your question there are both pistol and rifle magazines, that fit and function in the AR15 and there are both pistol and rifle versions of that platform.
 
I knew you can use the LAR 10 rounder in a AR-15 rifle, but what is the status legally if you get caught using it by the RCMP at a range? Doesn't the law clearly state only 5 rd magazines for rifles, 10 per pistol max?

Just asking because I've never seen a definition for these mags.

You might even want to print this page and carry it in your gun case. An officer is going to have a pretty tough time disputing something directly from the RCMP website.

So does this mean i can use a standard pmag and pin it to 10 rounds and say its a LAR-15 magazine if asked anything by an officer or i have to get the LAR mag that is shown in the quester link?

Absolutely not. That would be a prohibited device.

No, must use the LAR-15 Pistol magazine. It's labled as a pistol magazine, and therefore can hold 10 rounds.
And if your next question is can you lable a 30 round body "pistol" then pin to 10 rounds, the answer is NO. RCMP will not accept that.
