Got a win 94 I want to touch up. Metal is in pretty good shape, just superficial rust and usual spots for worn off blueing. Wondering if its perfectly fine to run cold blueing over the factory blueing. I've polished out all the superficial rust with the finest steel wool and fully degreased. Will it work well to just go ahead and pretty much blanket the thing with the blueing (Birchwood casey super blue)? I just did it with the barrel bands and it looks good. Re-blued worn out spots aren't perfectly matched with the factory blueing, but you have to look pretty carefully to see it. Most of the factory blue is still good (and I figure will still outlast the kit stuff) so this is why I don't want to do the full stripping and re-blueing.

This is standard procedure around here. Results are generally acceptable. Degreasing is important! I usually warm the pieces before applying the cold blue.

Good Shooting

winchester 94's have nickel steel which leaves cold bluing or coating your only option. i've seen cases where cold bluing will not blue right up to the original and leave a light line between the two.240wby is right , degrease and degrease again.it also , as he says, seems to bond better if the steel is warmed up first.
