Ok, so I keep seeing shotguns listed at 3.5" magnum, and being new to shotguns I don't know much.

Just to clarify, is every shotgun that can chamber 3.5" automatically a magnum?

Or is there 3.5 regular, then 3.5 magnum..

No.

Chamber sizes are 2 3/4", 3" magnum, and 3.5" super magnum for 12 gauges.

Most guns today are 3" magnums which means they can shoot both 2 3/4" and 3" shells.

A super magnum receiver can shoot 2 3/4", 3" magnums, and 3.5" super magnums.

The 'term' magnum is almost meaningless in modern shotguns. Chamber length is pretty much all you need to concern yourself with. A 3.5" (or 3" or 2-3/4") chamber can shoot everything that length and shorter.

As another note: some, not all, autoloading shotguns with the 3.5" chamber will not function reliably with 2 3/4" shells. From what I have read and been told there may not be enough energy to cycle the action.
